    报告人简介

ROBERT VINCENT BREUNIG is a professor of Economics at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University. Professor Breunig obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California Riverside in 1998. He has been teaching in the Australian National University since 1998. He was the acting director of Crawford School of Public Policy from 2015 to 2016. His research interest includes inter-generational mobility, regulatory and competition economics,  complex sampling and productivity, etc.

    报告简介

Recent research has highlighted a negative impact of inequality on economic growth. Prof. Breunig and his colleague re-evaluated the hypothesis focusing on both inequality and poverty and their interaction. Interestingly, they found that when they account for both inequality and poverty, the negative effect of inequality on growth appears to be concentrated amongst countries with high poverty. This would argue for policies targeted towards alleviating poverty rather than policies about redistribution.
